Keeping Your AC System Cleaner

4 Common Boiler Repair Issues

by Yolanda White

If you have a boiler in your home, it is important to understand the common type of boiler repairs you may face. This will allow you to know when you have an issue with your boiler that requires professional boiler repair.

1. Leaking

Your boiler should not leak out water. When you have water leaking directly from the boiler tank, that is a serious issue. The leak could be from a pump or pressure relief valve. Both issues can be repaired and fixed by a professional. The leak could also be happening because the boiler is beginning to corrode from inside. If this is the case, you are going to need to replace the boiler.

2. Lack of Heat

If your boiler is not producing any heat, you need a professional to review the system. A wide range of different problems can cause a lack of heat. For example, a lack of heat could be due to a clogged air filter. Alternatively, it could be caused by an issue with the ignition switch. Or it could be caused by a safety switch that is keeping your boiler from staying on. Those are just a few of the issues that can cause a lack of heat. A professional will go through a checklist to figure out what is causing the lack of heat and fix it for you.

3. Pilot Light Issues

Another common issue with a residential boiler is the pilot light issues. Some boilers keep the light on time, and others turn the pilot light on and off when the heat is needed. Boiler units that use electronic ignition to reheat whenever hot water is needed may experience pilot light issues. If the pilot light isn't lighting up, you need to bring in a professional to fix it.

4. Banging

A loud banging or rumbling sound that your boiler can make is referred to as kittling. Kettling happens when minerals build up in the water supply. The mineral deposits inside the tank impact the tank's pressure, which leads to a loud banging sound. This needs to be addressed as soon as possible, as the issue gets worse over time if not adequately addressed.

If you own a boiler, and you experience a lack of heat, pilot light issues, leaking, or banging sounds, those are all situations when you are going to want to call in a professional to fix your boiler. Contact a boiler repair service for more information.
